Over 10 Million people may have wrong insurance - 18 January 2009
10 million with wrong insurance

Sunday, 18 Jan 2009

According to research from Barclays Bank, as many as 10 million people could have the wrong type of insurance cover due to not updating their insurance policy following lifestyle changes.

An insurance review means tell your insurance company about new jobs, house purchases or having children. As well as possibly being underinsured for things like life insurance, income protection and critical illness cover – failure to inform insurance companies of your full circumstances could open the possibility of a non-disclosure claim rejection.

Director of advice and products at Barclays Financial Planning, David Stuart, reportedly commented: "When you buy a protection policy this should not be the end of the matter. It is crucial that people think about updating any cover, or switching to different types of products. It's a worrying statistic that over 10 million people could have the wrong cover when they think they are protected. Perhaps part of the problem is that people aren't often fully aware of what need and what sum their protection products cover in the first place, especially when they buy without advice."
