Adding Google Analytics to your IFAPortal website

This document applies to IFAPortal 2.0 websites. It is not possible to include the scripts in the older platform as they are removed by the content manager application on saving.

In Platform 2.0 (sites built since 1 April 2008) the analytics script can be added to a Text module, which is then set to display on all pages.

The best way to include this information is to include the information in the Module header of the text/html module.  This prevents the accidental removal of the script - after all it will not be visible.

Step by Step

  • Add a new Text/HTML module to a page of your site (we recommend it be placed at the bottom of your page).
  • Edit the text of the module to contain no text.
  • Enter the module settings from the Menu (upside down triangle icon)
  • Expand the "Advanced Settings" section
  • Check the box next to "Display Module On All Pages?"
  • Insert your Google Analyticas Javascript code in the "Header" box. This will ensure that the data is always retained
  • Now under "Page Settings" -> "Basic Settings" un-check the following boxes
    • Display Container
    • Allow Print
    • Allow Syndicate
  • Ensure that the "Cache Time" is set to 0
  • Click "Update" to save your changes

This should complete the setup.

You can log out as an administrator and view your IFAPortal website and no extra content should be displayed however if you look at the generated source you should see your javacript listed. Google Analytics will update in approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Note: As with any external javascript file, the file must be loaded from the external server, and as such can increase the time it takes your IFAPortal website pages to load.
